You have options for saving your course work and files:

  • OneDrive - Madison College preferred file storage solution. Cloud-based storage as one of the Microsoft 365 apps. Easy access whether on-campus or off-campus, from any device.
    • Easy to use
    • Access on-campus or off-campus from any device
    • Modern features - Autosave, versioning and more make this a convenient choice to meet modern-day demands
    • More space - 1 TB of space in the cloud
    • Secure - Your files are private unless you choose to share them with others at the college
    • Transferable skill - Many workplaces use OneDrive and you could also choose to have a personal OneDrive account
  • Home directory / H drive: Network storage. This is a legacy solution. Please plan to use OneDrive unless you have a specific reason to use your H drive. Works well when on-campus or with a virtual desktop. Off-campus access, storage space, and features are more limited than OneDrive.
  • E-mail a copy to yourself
  • USB drives
  • Local storage on your personal computer

Do Not save to the hard drive or desktop of a campus computer. Your work will not be saved when you log off.

Recommendations

  • Save early- As soon as you start a document, save it.
  • Save often - Maybe every paragraph or so.
  • Be aware of where you are saving - Use File-Save As...  When you open a document online, it may automatically save to a temporary location and may be deleted when you log off.
  • Backup - save in a couple locations. Protect your important course work.
